Abstract

This study examines the associations of interpersonal communication, organizational culture, and parental role with career choice among alumni of the fourth cohort of the Pertukaran Mahasiswa Merdeka program hosted by Universitas Djuanda, Bogor. A quantitative survey covered all 64 members of the identified cohort. Nineteen questionnaire items were measured using a five-point Likert scale. Composite scores were checked against the respondent-level item tabulation and analyzed using multiple linear regression. Interpersonal communication was positively associated with career choice (B = 0.363, p = 0.003), as was organizational culture (B = 0.444, p = 0.003). Parental role showed no statistically significant independent association after adjustment for the other predictors (B = 0.057, p = 0.561). The model was jointly significant, F(3, 60) = 21.675, p < 0.001, and explained 52.0% of the observed variance, with an adjusted R² of 0.496. The findings support attention to communication and collaborative academic environments in career guidance. They also indicate the need to distinguish general parental educational support from career-specific support. Interpretation is limited by the single-cohort design, self-reported measures, and the breadth of the career-choice composite.
